Face your fears about presenting your ideas as a Thought Leader by taking the first steps! Join AWA+D and architect, designer and world-traveling speaker Elaine Lee in identifying an idea to present about, and writing a proposal to present your idea to a conference review committee.

– Craft a biography/elevator pitch

AWA+D and SCI-Arc are sponsoring a Women in Architecture #wikiD writing workshop, a global campaign for improving and increasing Wikipedia articles pertaining to the lives and works of women in architecture and the built environment.

Wikipedia training begins the workshop on how to write and edit Wikipedia entries, followed by entry writing.

Create a Wikipedia account BEFORE the workshop here.

Bring your laptop, power cord, and published information (bio, books, articles, etc.) about women whom you would like to write about.

AWA+D is heading to Santa Barbara!

Join AWA+D, the Women of AIA Santa Barbara and our hosts for the afternoon (2-5pm),  Allen Construction, for a quintessential Santa Barbara experience that will explore local architecture, landscape architecture, and enjoy the company of local design professionals.

Traveling via a historic Santa Barbara trolley, we’ll start at the City’s Public Market and travel past landmarks like the old SB County Courthouse, the historic Mission and El Encanto. We’ll make a few stops at unique newer projects and finish with cocktails in the courtyard of Allen Construction’s Victoria Garden Mews, a LEED Platinum small-scale condominium project. Local landscape architects and designers will give insights about their projects along the way.

Space is limited for this very special event that includes transportation within Santa Barbara and food and drink, so RSVP to secure your spot! The tour will take place from 2-5pm, and specific addresses for parking and meeting will be sent closer to the event.

Join our MEMBERS ONLY small-group discussion to find a safe place for sharing and exploring issues that arise as we gain experience, scars and successes. As the first mentorship event of our 2016-2017 fiscal year, let’s see where the conversation goes!

USGBC Greenbuild 2016

This year’s conference will feature three days of inspiring speakers, invaluable networking opportunities, industry showcases, LEED workshops and tours of the host city’s green buildings. Focus’ include the WaterBuild Summit, which will discussions on water-related issues in California. For commercial or residential building, Greenbuild is the place to be.

Writing for Visual Thinkers Event

Don’t get lost in the shuffle – this year is an especially good year to start the process as NCARB is transitioning test version ARE 4.0 to ARE 5.0. This weekly study session is intended to help you keep on track and provide a forum to discuss exam topics, questions and solutions. We’re also sharing our collection of study material which includes flash cards, study guides and mock exams.

The first session is free to the public, subsequent sessions require an AWA+D membership.
